Press Release: StandWithUs Center for Legal Justice and Jewish Students Amend Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit Against MIT, Adding Claim Under KKK Laws

On March 7, 2024, StandWithUs Center for Legal Justice (SCLJ) and MIT students filed a federal lawsuit against MIT over the university’s condoning of antisemitism in violation of the students’ rights under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
The complaint, filed in Massachusetts District Court by several law firms, describes how MIT turns a blind eye to antisemitic activities on its campus, refuses to enforce policies to protect Jewish and Israeli students and faculty, and has thereby created a hostile environment for Jews. This lawsuit seeks to remedy this.
Jewish students at Middlebury College, who reported to the administration concerns about a pervasively hostile campus climate for Jews since October 7, 2023, have been met with total indifference. Even worse, they have endured unlawful and disparate treatment by the administration; retaliatory disciplinary proceedings; administrative denial that antisemitism exists; hostility; instructions to downplay and hide symbols associated with their Jewish identity; and outright failure by the administration to enforce their own policies to protect Jews.
